In 2017, James Godfrey and Jodi Moser had a vision. They bought a nearly derelict beachside home, against many a friend’s best advice, and decided to build the Treasure Beach retreat he had dreamed of since childhood. The son of a Mexican-born mother and Jamaican father, James spent weekends and summers swimming and playing in Treasure Beach; about a 1-hour drive from his family’s estate in Manchester. A seasoned entrepreneur, James, understood that with nothing risked there is nothing gained.  With a solid background in marketing and communications, Jodi could see the potential and knew there would be a story to tell once the project was complete. The “bones” of the beach house were strong, and together they set out to bring shape and beauty to the structure around them – a soul project led by intuition and conviction.

Jodi and James pushed through a year and a half of intensive renovations. In constant collusion with friends and family, they leaned on the people around them for support and added inspiration bringing in the right expertise at the right time. One such person was architect, Samantha Gore, who helped bring form and function to their creative ideas. Jamaican-born and raised, Samantha lived and worked in LA for 30 years before returning to her island roots. Collaborative and hands-on, Samantha was the perfect fit for James’ and Jodi’s enduring energy and commitment to getting things done.

Together, the trio created a three-level minimalist tropical house with the elegance of a well-arranged space in mind. It quickly became apparent that they were building more than a home. They were creating a lifestyle. Jodi’s strength in brand development combined with James’ creative and business leadership and Samantha’s experienced design-eye produced the perfect medley of ideas and execution they needed to set the foundation. A well-designed house complete with thoughtfully-curated comforts and artistic touches, intentionally-crafted services and specially-selected staff, Kotch is now the flagship property in James’ and Jodi’s collection of villas and houses in Jamaica. It represents a way of life that they have grown to cherish and share with family, friends and guests from around the world.
